Horry County and Myrtle Beach hope to bring a disc golf course to the Market Common area

Myrtle Beach is getting a new golf course, but instead of clubs and balls, it’ll use discs.

A new 18-hole discs golf course could be coming to a 25-acre piece of land in The Market Common. Splinter City Disc Golf Course will be located right across from Warbird Park.

The game course will likely be free to play and should be open by October. Horry County’s Infrastructure and Regulation Committee discussed plans at its Tuesday meeting.

Myrtle Beach and Horry County’s Parks departments are teaming up to bring the park to the corner of Farrow Parkway and Kings Highway.

Myrtle Beach is covering the costs of design and discs, as well as the permitting expenses. The county will handle construction and maintenance.

“This is a fun one,” Council Member Al Allen said.

It will be the second Horry County disc golf course. The first one is located at the Socastee Recreation Park.

“It has become a strong course across South Carolina. And it has a strong local club following,” Horry County Parks and Recreation Director Paul McCulloch.
