Coroner identifies person who died in fiery crash involving house in Longs area

The Horry County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the woman who died in a fiery crash involving a house in the Longs area on Saturday.

Mercedes Scales, 28, of Longs, was pronounced dead on the scene after driving into a house in the 8800 block of S.C. Highway 90 a little before 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Scales was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry on S.C. 90 just west of Pint Circle when she drove off the road, striking an unoccupied house and catching fire, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

No one else was injured in the incident. The highway patrol and Horry County police are investigating the incident.
