‘The taste is unbelievable’: This Market Common shop will keep you cool for the summer

A popular Myrtle Beach area dessert destination is making its debut at The Market Common just in time for summer.

Tropical Sno, an authentic Hawaiian shaved ice shop, has opened its first storefront at 981 Hackler St. across from King Street Grille in the Market Common area. The seasonal business typically has kiosks set up along the Grand Strand during annual festivals and in tourist spots like Broadway at the Beach and The Ripken Experience.

Owner Nyla Hucks said the decision to open a storefront allows more freedom for her business and the space provides more options to both her loyal clientele and new customers craving something cool and delicious.

“I wanted to open a storefront so I could do more stuff and stay open longer,” Hucks said. “We want to try to reach the local market more and be open earlier in the spring into the fall.”

With the shop already open for business, customers can expect 20 flavors of shaved ice, such as watermelon, peach and strawberry, blue raspberry, lemon and vanilla, along with ice cream, frozen custards and cream toppings that can be combined into 40 different concoctions.

Classic favorites and combinations will also be offered, including the Big Kahuna and Tigers Blood.

“Tropical Sno makes great flavors that are very true to taste,” Hucks said. “If you’re eating peach, you can almost taste the fuzz. The taste is unbelievable.”

The location will also provide fresh squeezed lemonade and bottled beverages. Additionally, The Market Common location only is offering a buy one, get one promotional offer on all products through July 2.

Depending on how good business is over the summer, Hucks said she’s considering expanding the shop into more of a general store. She said it would provide a need that is currently missing in The Market Common area.

“We might offer things like snacks, chips, gum and other products,” Hucks said. “Slowly but surely we’re going to keep adding if sales keep increasing.”
