Comments and reactions began swirling around social media quickly after a hustling-and-bustling weekend in Myrtle Beach ended with a shooting and block party on Ocean Boulevard amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Twitter and Facebook users viral comments focus on people gathering during the coronavirus pandemic when social distancing guidelines are still in place, and Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune also posted to Facebook about a shooting that injured several people Sunday evening.

“Crime and violence will not be tolerated here,” Bethune wrote. “Our community deserves better, our residents deserve better and our businesses deserve better.”

Twitter users showed disagreement with those who were in large groups in Myrtle Beach. One tweeter wrote, “If you went to Myrtle Beach, SC this weekend ..... STAY AWAY FROM ME FOR THE NEXT 14-21 DAYS !!”

One social media post caught a live view of the aftermath of the shooting on Ocean Boulevard.

While some posts to social media were calling out people for not practicing social distancing, one Facebook user detailed her account of Sunday night’s reported shooting on the 1100 block of North Ocean Boulevard.
