Myrtle Beach area forecast: Rain, thunderstorms may limit outdoor fun this week

Rain and storms could put a damper on outdoor activity this week in the Myrtle Beach area, according to the weekly forecast.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington says storm systems will move over the region through Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and minor flooding. Chances of showers are forecast to last into Friday, ahead of mostly sunny days during Memorial Day weekend, according to the extended forecast.

Forecasters are calling for chances of thunderstorms Monday night and into Tuesday.

Southern parts of Horry County could see up to 1 and a half inches of rain, while northern parts of the county could see up to two inches, the NWS Wilmington reports.

High wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph Monday, be as high as 20 mph Tuesday and up to 18 mph Wednesday, forecasters say.
