Here’s why there is an enhanced rip current risk in the Myrtle Beach area this weekend

Grand Strand beachgoers should be cautious of rip currents if they plan to take a swim in the ocean over the weekend, according to forecasters.

An enhanced risk of dangerous rip currents is likely this weekend in the Myrtle Beach area due to a possible development of an offshore subtropical cyclone, the National Weather Service in Wilmington reports.

The system could become a tropical or subtropical depression or storm this weekend, depending on its location, the NWS reports.

Forecasters say the system is expected to move generally northeast over the western Atlantic early next week.

The weekend weather will likely tempt folks to head to the beach as forecasters are calling for sunny days, with high temperatures around 80 degrees.
