City of Myrtle Beach cancels spring sports due to the coronavirus

Spring sports seasons in the City of Myrtle Beach have been canceled due to the coronavirus, said Dustin Jordan, the city’s director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.

Youth baseball and softball has been canceled for the spring, he said.

“We hated to make the decision, but with safety of our youth and residents as our number one priority, we felt it was the right decision to make,” Jordan said. “Our hopes are that we can now focus on planning our summer basketball, football and cheer seasons and run those without delay.”

Jordan said there is “much uncertainly” and the department will continue to closely monitor government guidelines.
