Celebrate Myrtle Beach’s history while social distancing during event at Market Common
The coronavirus outbreak might be keeping most indoors, but an event held at The Market Common will allow folks to learn more about Myrtle Beach’s history while practicing social distancing.
Starting in May, two 90-minute tours, hosted by Myrtle Beach History Tours, will kick off at The Market Common celebrating the city’s history in movies, music and military. These tours, which are typically conducted by trolley, will now be car phone tours that will run Monday through Saturday from May 18-30.
The first car phone tour is planned at 11 a.m. called “Early Myrtle Beach & The War Years.” The tour will share stories with a focus on on years 1941 to 1945 during World War II. Historians will detail the period when U-boat threats were off the coast and the arrival of German POWs.
The second tour, called “Myrtle Beach History, Movies & Music,” will begin at 2 p.m. Participants will learn about the city’s history from the mid-20th century to present day and the impact movies and music had on Myrtle Beach.
Ticket holders will be called on the day and time of their selected tour, with passengers required to stay in their car for the duration of the tour at the four historic locations in Myrtle Beach that will be provided to them. Addresses and directions to the subsequent historic sites will be sent to the ticket holder.
Those living out of state can also participate by enjoying an audio portion of the tour.
Both tours will meet at The Market Common. Tickets for the trolley tours are $25 each and can be bought on Eventbrite.com. For more information, email MyrtleBeachHistoryTours@gmail.com or visit www.marketcommonmb.com/events/ & https://www.facebook.com/MyrtleBeachHistoryTours.
