Weather alert: Severe thunderstorms could hit the Myrtle Beach area

Severe weather could impact the Grand Strand overnight Thursday and into Friday morning, forecasters say.

Wind damage and thunderstorms are possible in the Myrtle Beach area late Thursday night. The National Weather Service calls for chances of showers to begin Thursday morning, followed by wind gusts that could reach up to 28 mph.

Some storms overnight Thursday could be severe and produce heavy rainfall, according to the NWS.

Storms could last into Friday morning, but by mid day, forecasters say sunshine will return to the area.
