Grand Strand state parks closed by coronavirus threat may reopen soon. Here’s the latest

State parks on the Grand Strand tentatively plan to reopen at the start of May after being temporarily closed to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, South Carolina park officials said Wednesday.

The parks, including two on the Strand, Huntington Beach State Park and Myrtle Beach State Park, could reopen on a “limited basis” May 1. Most parks will reopen river, lake, beach and trail areas, but “group facilities” like picnic shelters and community buildings will remain closed, park officials said.

Only a limited amount of people can visit the parks at once.

Park playgrounds will be closed through June 1 and visitor centers plan to reopen May 11, officials said.
