North Myrtle Beach rescue crews suspended the search for a missing swimmer around 6:30 p.m.
City spokesman Pat Dowling said crews ended their search for Thursday, but will maintain a presence on the beach.
Emergency responders went to the beach near 14th Avenue South around 3 p.m. for a possible drowning. Dowling said one person was rescued from the water and crews searched for a man who was still in the water.
North Myrtle Beach and Horry County Fire Rescue crews used jet skis to try and find the man A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter also flew in to help.
Area beaches remain open despite the coronavirus outbreak. The state ordered the closure of public access to the beach, but those that have private access may continue use of the oceanfront.
