Viral YouTuber publishes video of stunt he pulled off at 2020 Myrtle Beach Marathon
Each year, participants bring their own unique styles and stunts to the Myrtle Beach Marathon.
What some saw during the 2020 version of the annual event likely topped them all.
MrBeast, a YouTuber with 32.6 million subscribers, and his friends took on the task of completing the marathon in size 40 shoes — and completed the painful stunt.
Jimmy Donaldson, 21, of Greenville, North Carolina and known to the masses as MrBeast, on Saturday posted the video “I Ran A Marathon In The World’s Largest Shoes” and within an hour it had nearly 500,000 views.
MrBeast explains in the video that each shoe weighed 5 pounds and the shoes cost $12,000 to be custom made.
“A marathon is one of the hardest feats any human could attempt. This is 26 miles, which is a lot,” he says early on in the video.
With Donaldson and his friends acknowledging pain early on in the walk, MrBeast exclaimed at 2 miles that “We’re only 8 percent done and I already have blisters.” Donaldson and Co. documented that another friend named Karl, who was doing the marathon in regular shoes, reported being finished while the others were just 3.3. miles in.
“You have 15 minutes to make 23 miles, Karl says as the marathon is on the verge of ending.
Long after the marathon was over for the masses, Donaldson and Co. trudged on, citing ankle, hip and overall leg pain along the way. They duct-taped their shoes at times to help with comfort and took breaks to rest and eat.
Donaldson and his friends twice quit for the night to get rest and begin again in the morning. They chatted with people on Ocean Boulevard and MrBeast, who’s known for crazy stunt videos, some in which he gives people money, handed out money to a couple people he encountered who proved they had subscribed to him on YouTube.
They did 8.4 miles the first day, 10.6 the second and finished the race after 7 on March 9, two days after the race began.
“It’s not as epic as a normal finish line and that’s because the marathon closed two days ago,” MrBeast said after finishing. “We officially completed a marathon in size 40 shoes.”
