Coastal Carolina University extends spring break amid coronavirus concerns

Coastal Carolina University extended its spring break due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to an email sent to students.

Spring break began for CCU students on March 9 and was originally set to end March 14. It has been extended to March 20 with classes returning on March 23.

“Now that the World Health Organization has declared a pandemic, CCU will extend its spring break,” the email stated. “Campus operations including residence halls and dining services are open.”

As of Wednesday, no coronavirus cases have been documented in Horry County, but several cases have been confirmed in South Carolina.

Students were notified by a Wednesday afternoon email from the Office of University Marketing and Communication. Faculty and staff are expected to show up for work normally.

More information should be provided by Wednesday at 6 p.m., according to the email.
