Georgetown used helicopters and drones to find a missing man. Now they need your help

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s office is still looking for Jimmy McCants, 84, who has not been since since Monday.

And now officials asking for the public’s help locating him.

McCants lives on Atlantic Avenue in Pawleys Island and also serves on the local planning commission. His car was found along Highway 17 north of Georgetown after McCants told his wife he was leaving to run some errands.

Safety officials with various Georgetown County departments are searching all over for McCants and are utilizing all available resources. So far, 28 people participated in the search on Monday night and 49 people helped Tuesday.

The United States Coast Guard used a helicopter in the search, drones and boats have been deployed and a thermal camera was used in the search. But McCants still has not been located.

“We don’t want to leave a stone unturned in our search for Mr. McCants,” sheriff Carter Weaver said. “Rescuers have searched the area thoroughly, and deputies have followed up on a number of leads. So far, our efforts have not answered the question: ‘Where is Jimmy McCants?’ We are not giving up, but we are changing tactics. We hope the public can provide some help.”

Anyone with information about McCants location can call the Georgetown Sheriff’s office at 843-546-5102.
