Grab your chaps and your boots! It’s time for the annual rodeo in the Conway area
The rodeo is comin’ to town, y’all.
Students from all over the state plan to hop on their horses and compete as Res Les Farms presents the 5th annual South Carolina Rodeo Association rodeo this weekend in the Conway area.
Those in kindergarten to 12th grade will compete in rodeo events like bareback riding, tie-down roping, break-away roping and barrel racing. Nine teenagers from Horry County will be competing over the weekend, said Stacy Smith, president of SCHSRA.
Smith and her husband Buddy started the rodeo because there were no rodeos in the area for their daughter to compete in, she said, and they wanted to raise awareness about the rodeo competition.
“Along with raising awareness and helping these kids have a place where they can do the things they love to do, we also want to honor God through it,” Smith said. “We try to honor that through it with the music that we choose and the bible verses at the gate.”
Gates open at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with events beginning at 8 p.m. at Res Les Farm, at 1208 Gilbert Road in Conway. Events are set through the day Saturday that begin in the morning, including cowboy church at 10 a.m.
Tickets are $10 per person, and students who can quote a bible verse may purchase tickets for $5. Children 5 years old and under may enter for free.
Smith said food and clothing vendors will set up during the event and pony rides will be available for children.
