A new department store is coming to North Myrtle Beach. Here’s what we know

Construction on a new department store is underway in the City of North Myrtle Beach.

Kohl’s will open a 55,100-square-foot store on Old Highway 17 across from the new Publix and Coastal North Shopping Center, city officials said.

Grading, stormwater and road improvements have begun, said Pat Dowling, North Myrtle Beach’s spokesman. The company has applied for a building permit, which is under review, Dowling said.

Details about when the store will open have not been released.

Kohl’s is a retail chain that began in 1962 in Wisconsin and now has more than 1,100 stores in almost every state in the United States, according to its website.
