How a man used a trash can to steal $1,000 worth of cigarettes from a Little River store

A suspect used a trash can as his heist bag as he boosted more than $1,000 worth of cigarettes from a Little River store, police say.

Horry County police officers went to the Speedway, 1444 U.S. Highway 17, for a burglary alarm on Feb. 2.

When officers arrived, the glass was shattered and they saw the Newport cigarette shelves pulled out and emptied, according to a police report. There were also five packs of cigarettes on the floor.

Video surveillance showed a suspect wearing a dark hoodie, camouflage pants, brown boots and gray work gloves using a tire iron to break the glass door.

The suspect filled a trash can with 162 packs of cigarettes, according to the report.

The suspect was in the store for about four minutes and the cigarettes had an estimated value of $1,141.
