Here is when forecasters say severe storms could ramp up in the Myrtle Beach area

Severe weather is expected to hit the Myrtle Beach area Thursday, bringing chances of thunderstorms, showers and wind gusts as high as 37 mph, forecasters say.

Thunderstorms and rainfall will be the most severe Thursday evening, the National Weather Service predicts. The NWS in Wilmington said Thursday morning chances of severe weather later in the day has slightly increased.

Forecasters say chances of showers are possible in the morning Thursday, and then thunderstorms are possible after 8 a.m. and through the rest of the day.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina reports tornadoes are possible along the coastal counties Thursday night.

The day will be breezy Thursday, with gusts that could reach 37 mph, the NWS reports. Evening wind gusts could be damaging, with some severe storms, forecasters say.

The weather service warns that heavy rain could develop localized flooding. It’s possible the Myrtle Beach area could see up to .88 of an inch of rain Thursday night, according to the NWS Wilmington.

By Friday morning, forecasters say rainfall and storms will be gone from the area, and the day will be mostly sunny with a high near 58 degrees in Myrtle Beach.
