Horry County Coroner identifies two people killed in S.C. 9 wreck
A second person died following a two-vehicle crash in the Loris area Thursday morning, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said two people were airlifted to Grand Strand Medical Center and a third person was transported to a Loris area hospital after the collision on S.C. 9 near Camp Swamp Road.
Joan McLain, 82, of Loris died Thursday and Raymond McLain, 82, of Loris, died Friday morning, said Darris Fowler, Horry County deputy coroner.
Both died from multiple traumas caused by the crash, Fowler said.
Officials went to the crash about 9:30 a.m. A 2011 Kia was trying to turn left onto S.C. 9 from Camp Swamp Road and was struck by a 2003 Tahoe traveling north on S.C. 9, said Cpl. Matt Southern with SCHP.
The passenger in the Kia died, and the driver was airlifted by a medical helicopter, Southern stated. The passenger who died was not wearing a seat belt, Southern said. The driver of the Tahoe was taken to a nearby hospital. Officials have not said which vehicles the McLains were in at the time of the crash.
Drivers were asked to avoid westbound lanes of S.C. 9 as emergency crews were on scene, Horry County Fire Rescue reported.
