At least four businesses at Myrtle Beach’s Coastal Grand Mall have closed in recent months

At least four businesses inside Coastal Grand Mall have closed their doors in recent months.

MasterCuts, Regis Salon, Fairytale Play and Motherhood Maternity all sat closed Saturday.

MasterCuts and Regis Salon — affiliates of Regis Corp. — closed down Dec. 31, according to Teola Faulk, who worked as a hair stylist at Regis Salon for two years up until the closing. Both salons have “store closed” signs on their doors that also list information on how to get in touch with some of the hair stylists who have since moved to other salons.

Faulk said she and other employees of MasterCuts and Regis Salon received an email from The Beauty Group (TBG) — which had previously bought hundreds of salons from Regis Group — on Dec. 30 informing them that the store was closing the next day. Regis Corp recently reacquired approximately 200 salons from TBG that have real estate obligations, while noting in a press release that the remaining 300 salons not leased through Regis were expected to be closed by TBG.

Faulk said it was her understanding that the Coastal Grand Mall locations were a casualty of the recent transaction. An email to Coastal Grand Mall seeking further information on the closings was not immediately answered Saturday.

Fairytale Play — described as a indoor family enrichment and birthday party venue — saw its stay at the mall short-lived. According to the business’ Facebook page, it held a grand opening Nov. 9, but on Jan. 15 it announced it was moving.

“Good morning friends. We are sorry to inform you but due to unforeseen circumstances with the mall we will be moving,” the post reads. “We know how much this place is wanted and needed so please keep on the lookout for a update as soon we know more.

“Even [though] the play area is having to move our characters are still available for bookings check them out at Fairytale Characters of Myrtle Beach or on our website fairytaleplaymb.com under the character tab thank you for your understanding and patience with us as we work out this out.”

A similar note was visible at the business’ location.

Motherhood Maternity’s closing was anticipated, according to USA Today. The news outlet listed the two Myrtle Beach locations — the other being the outlet store at Tanger Outlets off U.S. 17, whose Facebook page says “permanently closed” — among stores slated to shut down as part of part of Destination Maternity’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

Another store called Litez sat empty Saturday, though it’s unclear how long that business has been closed.

Several other stores at Coastal Grand Mall have closed in the last year, including Dress Barn, Charlotte Russe, Payless Shoe Source, Brookstone and Jungle Fun arcade.
