Update: Swimmer reported missing in Myrtle Beach found safe on shore

Update: The swimmer reported missing was found safe on shore.

Myrtle Beach police and beach rescue personnel are conducting a search after receiving a report of a missing swimmer near 70th Avenue North, according to Capt. Christian Sliker with MBFD.

Sliker said the caller, whom authorities are making contact with to get further information, reported that a swimmer entered the ocean and was not seen again.

Myrtle Beach police and fire rescue personnel came on scene around 2 p.m. and put two jet skis in the water. Several beach rescue personnel were seen walking through the water while searching. They were going with the northward current from 70th Avenue North and beyond.

Jet skis were scanning the ocean from 70th Avenue North to approximately 80th Avenue North, and police officers were seen in truck beds looking out into the ocean with binoculars with the vehicles at a slow creep. As of just before 3 p.m., the jet skis returned to the beach.

Sliker said it was reported surfers were in the area but it was unclear as to whether that information was connected to the search. Sliker said the investigation is still early and personnel are still gathering details.
