Celebrate Gullah Geechee Community Day through this upcoming downtown Conway event

The City of Conway and Coastal Carolina University are hosting an event to celebrate the Gullah Geechee community.

On March 7 from 10 a.m to 4 p.m, downtown Conway will have various stops featuring Gullah and lowcountry foods, lectures, talks on history and performances, all showcasing the Gullah Geechee culture. It is a free event.

Hosts of the event also include the Horry County Museum, the Charles W. Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies and The Athenaeum Press.

It is a kid-friendly event too. More information can be found on the event’s Facebook page.

The event will mark the end of a three-day International Gullah Geechee and African Diaspora Conference hosted by CCU. Academics, writers, poets and artist will gather to discuss this year’s topic focusing on the “politics of digitizing and preserving the African Diaspora.”
