Teazer alert! Great white shark pings off Myrtle Beach coast

Let’s hope this shark lives up to his name.

Teazer, a nearly 11-foot great white shark tracked by Ocearch, teased Myrtle Beach on Saturday as he was pinged off the coast, according to data from Ocearch, which tracks great whites off the East Coast in addition to other missions.

There’s likely no reason to fret, though, as Teazer, a 10-foot-9 shark weighing 651 pounds, was a good ways from shore and far out in the Atlantic Ocean when he pinged Myrtle Beach. The marine animal is at sub-adult age, the second-highest level of maturity, according to Ocearch.

In coming through Myrtle Beach this weekend, Teazer has traveled 66 miles in 72 hours, Ocearch data shows. He’s traveled 1,433 miles in 103 days. Teazer was last tagged in Nova Scotia, Canada on Oct. 3, according to Ocearch.

Teazer is named after a ghost ship called the Young Teazer, whose lore has it returning to Mahone Bay in Nova Scotia every year.
