Motorcyclist dies after running into tree in Georgetown County

A motorcyclist died after running off the road and striking a tree Saturday in Georgetown County, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

At approximately 11 a.m., the motorcyclist — identified Sunday by the Georgetown County Coroner’s Office as 70-year-old Larry Alford of Johnsonville — was going east on Old Pee Dee Road near the intersection with Whister Road he they ran off the left side if the road and struck a tree, dying as a result of the crash, Collins said.

Alford was the only occupant while operating a 2006 Honda motorcycle during the crash, according to Collins.
