Overnight rain is forecast to sweep into the area Friday night and chances of rain will continue into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Wilmington say it’s possible temperatures will reach a record high Friday in the region ahead of the expected rainfall. High temperatures are forecast to reach up to 74 degrees in the Myrtle Beach area and 78 degrees in the northern Horry County area.

The “bulk of the rainfall” will be between 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday, the NWS said, and areas of Horry County could see up to half-an-inch of rain and wind gusts up to 24 mph.

After rain moves away and offshore, stronger winds will continue. Gusts could reach up to 18 mph in Myrtle Beach, the NWS reports. Sunshine will return to the area Sunday, with temperatures in the 50s.

Marine conditions will be the worst Saturday night and early Sunday, when gale conditions are possible, according to the NWS.

Here are the weekend high and low temperatures in Myrtle Beach, according to the NWS:

  • Saturday: High 66; low 40
  • Sunday: High 52; low 40
