Bait, switch, escape on a moped: Duo steals dozens of lighters from Myrtle Beach store

It was the classic bait and switch with a moped get away.

Two men stole nearly $75 worth of “Bic zodiac sign lighters” from a Circle K gas station convenience store on Dec. 26 at 5 a.m on North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach.

The two men went to separate counters in the store and began counting change. Then they started switching counters, according to a Myrtle Beach police report.

As they were walking in between the counters, one of the men threw about 25 Bic lighters into a bag. The two then rushed out of the store, hopped on a red moped and dashed.

Police responded to the store but it was too late. Someone at the shop recognized one of the men but didn’t know his name. A “be on the lookout” report was sent out by police.
