Authorities attempting rescue after truck submerged in retention pond in Murrells Inlet

Authorities are attempting to rescue three people trapped in a submerged truck in a retention pond on Christmas Eve, according to WPDE, The Sun News’ news alliance partner.

At approximately 7:57 p.m., the truck was out of the water. The status of any victims was unclear.

Murrells Inlet/Garden City Fire Rescue is on scene with diving assistance from Horry County Fire Rescue, HCFR’s Tony Casey confirmed. On scene, divers could be scene in the water as of 7:30 p.m. and a tow truck was at the edge of the pond.

Chief Norman Knight, with Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Rescue, told WPDE there were three people trapped in the retention pond near Jersey Mike’s as of 7 p.m.
