Video shows CCU student hurling racist remarks at couple, school condemns it

Coastal Carolina University is condemning a video circulating on social media that appears to show a student making racist remarks at a bar.

The video, which has been retweeted hundreds of times as of Friday, shows a woman in a bar making gagging noises to disparage an interracial couple, referring to them as an “Oreo couple,” sitting nearby.

The public post appears to be a screen grab of another Twitter user whose profile is set to private. That user’s caption claims the students involved are sorority members at CCU.

CCU addressed the video Friday morning, tweeting: “CCU has become aware of an offensive video posted by a student on social media. The University condemns the video as it does not align with our commitment to promote a culture of inclusiveness and equity.”

In responses under the social media post, one user posted an apology note apparently written by the woman in the video in which she states the situation was taken out of context, and she is not against interracial couples.
