‘It’s going to be a nice Christmas’: Murrells Inlet couple beats the odds in SC lottery

A Grand Strand couple was extra thankful — and lucky — this Thanksgiving.

After purchasing a Palmetto Cash 5 ticket, a Murrells Inlet man and his wife won $200,000, according to a release from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

All five numbers he picked were a match during the Thanksgiving night draw. The loyal Palmetto Cash 5 player said he’s thankful for the win and plans to keep playing, the release states.

“It’s going to be a nice Christmas,” his wife said.

The release states because he spent an extra $1 for the “power-up,” his $100,000 winnings doubled. The odds of winning $200,000 playing the game are 1 in over 1 million.

The ticket was purchased at the Speedway in Murrells Inlet, which received a commission of $2,000 for selling the winning ticket.
