Two Horry County guinea pigs were poisoned and whodunnit remains a mystery

Two guinea pigs were poisoned and killed in their Horry County home, and the suspected killer remains at large.

A woman told Horry County police’s south precinct that her two pet guinea pigs — Maggie and Lilly — were found dead in her condo. Each pet was about 18 months old and healthy before they died.

Officials at the Vet Clinic of Myrtle Beach, which determined the pets died of a ruptured stomach likely caused by ingesting a chemical, according to a police report.

Maggie and Lilly lived with the woman and one of her coworkers at a condo. The woman and the coworker were roommates for financial reasons as the coworker was going through a divorce, the report states.

The coworker denied having anything to do with the pets’ deaths and offered to take a polygraph test, according to the report.

A few of the coworker’s family members and his estranged wife had access to the condo, according to the report. The police do not name any of them as suspects.

The woman has moved out of the condo since the pets’ deaths and told police she just wanted the incident documented.
