The more than 529-acre tract of land where the former Bay Tree Golf Plantation in Little River sold for $9.25 million, according to a press release issued by Coldwell Banker Chicora.

The property, which is just north of S.C. 9, is located only three miles from the beach, and the pre-approved development plans include commercial opportunities and the potential for more than 1,700 residential units, according to the release.

The 54-hole Bay Tree Golf Plantation closed in 2006 and was sold to Centex Homes for redevelopment. Although Centex drew up plans for new housing, the company never broke ground and the property was sold once again to the Wakefield Development Co. in 2007.

The development stalled since then.

The original Bay Tree development opened in 1972.
