Cool down at Brookgreen
Brookgreen Gardens is inviting people to cool down with their Cool Summer Evenings program that begins this week.
Gardens will remain open until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays beginning this Wednesday and run through August 7.
Activities will include outdoor concerts, evening boat rides and special programs for children – all of which are included in general admission.

Movies in town
Jurassic World, the long-awaited next installment of the Jurassic Park series, opens in theaters this Friday. The movie stars Chris Pratt and is executived produced by Steven Spielberg.
In theaters as of last week, fans of the HBO series “Entourage” can see all their favorite guys again at the movies, or take in the thrills and chills of “Insidious: Chapter 3.” Melissa McCarthy’s latest venture, “Spy,” also has opened, with the desk-bound CIA analyst going deep under cover to prevent a global disaster.
Myrtle Beach Elvis Festival
The Myrtle Beach Elvis Festival returns Thursday with performances, contests and parties all weekend.
Activities include free tribute concerts at Plyler Park and the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest at Legends in Concert at Broadway at the Beach.

Honoring four generations of vets
A special family reunion, involving four generations of veterans, will take place at the Veterans Cafe and Grille at noon on Thursday
About 25 family members will arrive at noon Thursday, but the public is asked to be there by 11:30 a.m. to set up a welcome flag line. Participants are encouraged to stay and have lunch at the cafe and visit with the veterans, which include five family members.
Veterans Cafe is located at 3544 Northgate Drive in Myrtle Beach.
The Myrtle Beach Speedway will host Monster Jam on Thursday and Friday.
There also will be a Party in the Pits event held 4:30 p.m. Friday to give fans the opportunity to meet the drivers and see the trucks up close.
