The Rape Crisis Center is accepting applications for new volunteers and training classes for those interested in getting involved are set to begin later this month.
Volunteer training classes will be held Monday through Thursday from June 22 to 25, and classes will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m., according to a press release from the organization.
Training for new volunteers is expected to be at least 20 hours as required by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
The Rape Crisis Center provides victims of sexual assault free confidential services. Workers at the organization offer counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, awareness and education.
The center also operates a 24-hour crisis line year round, and volunteers provide hospital accompaniment and new clothing to victims, who come to the seven different hospitals in Horry and Georgetown counties, as their clothing is kept as police evidence.
For more information and to learn how to get involved, visit the center’s website at www.victimtosurvivor.org, or call the center’s main office at 448-3180.
The number to the 24-hour crisis line is 448-7273.
