‘This has happened before’: North Myrtle landing closes due to falling pieces from bridge
The Johnny Causey Boat Landing closed on Wednesday due to some falling concrete from a Highway 17 bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in North Myrtle Beach.
North Myrtle Beach Spokesperson Pat Dowling said the landing closed, but the state-owned bridge remains open.
“This has happened before,” Dowling said in a text message.
On Thursday, the South Carolina Department of Transportation released information on social media about the landing closure and the safety of the bridge.
“The structural integrity of the bridge is not impacted, and the bridge is safe for travel,” SCDOT officials said in a tweet.
SCDOT officials said that an emergency repair contract is in the works, and the boat landing will stay closed until bridge is fixed, but didn’t have a timeline on when that would be.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience,” officials said in a tweet.
