Update: Body found in mall parking lot identified. Myrtle Beach police investigating

A man reported to be missing by Horry County police on Wednesday was found dead in his vehicle in the Coastal Grand Mall parking lot Thursday afternoon.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden announced that Chase Hutchison was found dead around noon in his vehicle in the mall parking lot.

The cause of death is not expected to be finalized for several months, according to McSpadden.

The coroner’s office, Horry County police and Myrtle Beach police are coordinating the investigation.

On Thursday afternoon, officers responded to the mall’s parking lot after a dead body was found in a car. Myrtle Beach Cpl. Thomas Vest said it’s too soon to say if foul play was involved in the case.

The Coastal Grand Mall is off U.S. 17 Bypass in Myrtle Beach. On Wednesday, it was the scene of a reported armed robbery.

Hutchison, 22, was last seen was seen on March 12 near the Prestwick Country Club in the Myrtle Beach area.
