Severe storms expected this afternoon in Myrtle Beach area

Forecasters warn of the threat for severe weather for the Myrtle Beach this afternoon, according to officials.

A low pressure is moving across the area this afternoon and Steve Pfaff with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C., said there could be severe storms associated with the pressure.

There is a chance of hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph associated with the storm, Pfaff said. There is also a small risk for a brief tornado.

Beachgoers should monitor for rip currents and move indoors when the storm comes into the area.

The storm will give way to sunny skies with daytime highs in the 80s for the rest of the holiday weekend and clear or partly cloudy nights with lows around 70 degrees.
