Citing the area’s snowbird population, Myrtle Beach is considering adding a three month membership option for the city’s recreation centers.

Currently those interested in taking advantage of the city’s fitness centers can join as a monthly or yearly member.

“We have a lot of snowbirds who come from December through February,” he said. “It would be nice to offer them a little bit of a break. … This would be a more economical rate [than paying monthly].”

An adult who keeps a residence in Myrtle Beach who chose to get monthly membership at the city’s fitness centers would pay $30 a month, totaling $90. With the new three-month membership, those same residents would pay $75.

City Council gave initial approval to the addition of a three-month membership rate structure when it passed the first reading of the budget ordinance last week.

City Council could consider second and final reading of the budget ordinance as soon as June 9.
