Holmestown Road closures expected this week

Crews will be working to relocate utilities on Holmestown Road on the inside lanes and medians between U.S. Highway 17 Bypass to Blue Jay Drive, causing lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly beginning Monday evening and ending Friday morning.

The outside westbound lane on Holmestown Road from U.S. 17 Bypass to Blue Jay Drive will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Surfside blesses the beach

Surfside Beach will hold its annual Blessing of the Beach 7 a.m. Sunday at Surfside Beach Pier.

The ceremony will include pray and musical selections from several area churches.

Backhoe Rodeo held Thursday

The 21st annual Backhoe Rodeo will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Georgetown County Landfill.

The public is welcome to watch the rodeo, but anyone who wants to join the event for lunch is asked to RSVP at jdirks@gtcounty.org.

The Georgetown County Landfill is located at 201 Landfill Road, off of S.C. Highway 51.

Food trucks on County Council agenda

Horry County Council will vote on the third and final reading of an ordinance to allow mobile food trucks in the county.

Council will discuss the issue during its 6 p.m. meeting Tuesday in council chambers at the Horry County Government and Justice Center, 1301 Second Ave.

Bikefest prayer events

Several prayer events will be held this week as residents pray for safety during the Atlantic Beach Bikefest held this weekend.

A group of residents will man prayer tents on the former Myrtle Beach Pavilion property for what they are calling 60 hours of prayer beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday straight through to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Also on Thursday, HOPE Church at Carolina Forest Elementary School will hold a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a motorcycle “unity ride.”

Another group of Grand Strand residents have coordinated a Grand Strand Community of Faith Memorial Day Prayer Vigil where it asked area residents to sign up to pray – from wherever they are – during 30 minute time slots from noon Thursday through 6 p.m. May 25.

Aynor goes for title

The Aynor softball team will try to bring home a state title this week as it plays Andrew Jackson in a three-game series.

Game 1 is Monday at Andrew Jackson with a 6 p.m. start. Game 2 will be at Aynor on Wednesday, and a third game, if necessary, will be at a neutral site Friday.
