Tropical Storm Ana came ashore about 6 a.m. Sunday near North Myrtle Beach with sustained winds of nearly 45 mph.

The Weather Service warned that the strongest rain and winds could be expected north of the center of the storm. The amount of rainfall predicted for the coast could be 2 to 3 inches, according to the NWS, especially for Horry County and Pender County, N.C.

A flood watch was extended until 8 a.m. Monday for several counties, including Horry County and Brunswick County, N.C., however all river were expected to remain in their banks.

Forecasters expected Ana to make a slow turn to the north, and also expected the Tropical Storm Warning to be canceled later Sunday afternoon.

Strong caution was still urged for any marine activity. Strong rip currents, large breakers, and strong longshore currents will create dangerous surf conditions at all local beaches. Seas will reach 10 to 15 feet with 7 to 10 feet near shore.

The National Weather Service’s update will be the last formal briefing of the storm, as they expect it to disappate and weaken as it moves north.
