North Myrtle Beach firefighters extinguish house fire Thursday morning, crews battled house fire Wednesday also
North Myrtle Beach firefighters have responded to different house fire calls two mornings in a row this week.
Fire rescue crews most recently responded about 8 a.m. Thursday to a house fire on the 5600 block of Whistling Duck Drive, in the Barefoot Resort and Golf community, in North Myrtle Beach.
Officials said a vanity in the bathroom caught fire and caused about $3,000 to $4,000 of damage to the master bathroom, said Pat Dowling, North Myrtle Beach city spokesman. The fire department has traced the origin of the fire back to a battery that malfunctioned in a remote control used to operate blinds in the home, Dowling said. The remote control was kept in a drawer in the bathroom vanity.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, Dowling said.
North Myrtle Beach firefighters also responded to a call about a house fire just before 10 a.m. Wednesday on the 1100 block of Golfview Drive.
The cause was said to be due to electrical issues, Chief Garry Spain said, with North Myrtle Beach Fire and Rescue.
There also were no injuries in that incident, and no one was home at the time of the fire, according to Dowling.
Spain said the fire started in a back bedroom in the home and that is where most of the damage is, but the whole house suffered smoke damage.
Golfview Drive was closed briefly Wednesday morning while rescue crews were on the scene, Dowling said.
