One dead, one charged after fatal Georgetown DUI car crash

with driving under the influence after a Georgetown-area car crash that resulted in one death and injuries to three , according to Sgt. Bob Beres with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The fatal car crash occurred about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday on S.C. 51 about 3.7 miles north of Georgetown.

According to the Georgetown County Coroner’s office, Treyshawn C. Elder died in the crash.

Police have charged Fredrick Travis, 19, who was the driver of a 2007 Ford 150 pickup truck. Police said the truck was traveling north on S.C. 51 when it crossed the center line in the road and struck a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis head-on, Beres said.

The driver of the Mercury was wearing his seatbelt, but died as a result of being struck. There were three occupants of the Mercury, and one was airlifted to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center due to injuries suffered in the crash. Two other passengers of the Mercury were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center by ambulance, Beres said. The names of the three passengers were not provided Wednesday.

Police said Travis was not injured in the crash. The one passenger traveling with him also was not uninjured.

T car crash remains under investigation, according to highway patrol officials.
