The early arrivals for the spring Harley-Davidson rally will be rolling into town at the end of the week, with the rally’s first events kicking off this weekend. Events will continue through May 17.

Council to vote on Coast RTA chief
Horry County Council is scheduled to vote at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the contract for Brian Piascik, finalist for the job of chief executive officer of Coast RTA. Piascik was announced as Coast’s selection for its next CEO on April 7 before getting the hire approved by Horry County Council. The approval is required through a funding agreement the transit and county entered in 2014, which is part of the county’s effort for accountability on the $1.05 million it gives Coast annually. The County Council will meet in Council Chambers, 1301 Second Ave., Conway.
Turning the tassel
About 1,100 students are eligible to participate in Coastal Carolina University’s Spring commencement, which is set for 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Brooks Stadium.
Michael J. Gerson, a nationally syndicated political columnist and former aide to President George W. Bush, will give the address.
More postseason
Area high school boys tennis and girls and boys soccer teams will begin postseason play this week.
Also, the high school baseball and softball district playoffs are set to continue through Friday, with the Lower State tournaments for all classes except AAA to begin Saturday.
Big South tourney
The Coastal Carolina softball team on Sunday earned the No. 2 seed for this week’s Big South tournament in Buies Creek, N.C.
The Chants open up at 5 p.m. Thursday against seventh-seeded Campbell.
