Democratic Women’s Council offering up $1,500 in scholarships

The Democratic Women’s Council of Horry County opened their annual essay contest to eligible high school seniors looking for $1,000 in scholarship funds.

Students can submit one 1,000 to 1,500 word essay on “how Democratic values make my life better.” Essays will be judged based on content, clarity, and relevance to the theme.

The council is also awarding $500 to one high school senior for black and white artwork, in jpg format, suitable for the Scholarship Essay Contest booklet cover based on this year’s topic. Artwork will be judged on relevance to the topic.

Applicants must be registered voters of Horry County or scheduled for graduation by June 2015. Voter registration card or proof of residency (for applicants under the age of 18) are required at time of essay submission.

Essays and artwork are due by Thursday, April 30. Essays can be emailed to Pam Heller atpheller1@sc.rr.com. Student name, address and telephone numbers must be included with submission. Artwork must black and white and in .jpg format.

Students must also submit a completed entry form, college or university application or acceptance letter and voter registration.

The winning artwork will be used as cover art for a booklet with all the winning essays. Entry forms and contest rules can be found at www.dwchc.com.
