A brush fire burning in the Carolina Forest community near the newly opened Gander Mtn. store has been marked under control.

Brian VanAernem, with Horry County Fire Rescue, said the fire, which started about 3:15 p.m., had spread to several acres.

Three fire engines, a brush truck and the S.C. Forestry Commission was called to the fire.

Horry County Fire Rescue Chief Fred Crosby said around 4:15 p.m. crews are working on clean up. He said the fire call came in at 3:13 p.m. and that no buildings were affected. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
