Midway Fire Rescue crews rescued a woman after she was trapped in pluff mud above her waist Tuesday afternoon.

According to Chief Doug Eggiman with Midway Fire Rescue, she was stuck approximately 200 feet out into the marsh area near Oyster Shell Landing in Murrells Inlet.

Eggiman says crews got the woman out of the mud and back on the shore shortly after 3 p.m.

He does not know why the woman was out in the mud, but explained that they receive similar calls regarding people getting stuck in the pluff mud around once or twice a year.

The woman was safely removed from the mud without suffering from any injuries.
