Forecasters: Severe weather threat this evening for the Myrtle Beach area
Sunny skies in the Myrtle Beach area won’t last through the afternoon Monday, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C.
“Widely scattered to scattered thunderstorms should develop this afternoon and evening ahead of a surface cold front that will be moving through the region,” said Michael Caropolo, meteorologist in charge at the weather service. “Some of this activity will become severe with hail, damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes.”
The tornado threat will be isolated and confined to North Carolina, Caropolo said.
The severe weather is expected to move into the area early afternoon Monday, officials said.
The rain is not expected to last because the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to be sunny skies with daytime highs about 75 degrees, forecasters said.
The overnight low is 63 degrees Monday, 54 Tuesday and 60 on Wednesday.
