Family of Heather Elvis marks fourth anniversary of her disappearance

The family of Heather Elvis will mark the fourth anniversary of her disappearance with a vigil Monday at Peachtree boat landing.

The event is called “A Night of H.E.L.P.P.” with “H.E.L.P.P.” being an acronym standing for Hope. Encouragement. Love. Purpose. Perseverance, according to a posting on the “Findheatherelvis” Facebook page.

“We will gather in this hope on Dec 18th, at Peachtree Landing to remember a piece of our family we have been missing for 4 long years. We hope you will join us to remember your loved ones as well,” reads a Facebook post on the event. “This night is not just about Heather, it is about our community. In the same way you have all gathered and stood faithful to our family in our time of need, we want to give back.”

The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday.

The Elvis family invites those separated from loved ones by death, distance, time, or other circumstances to come out to the boat landing, write a name on a luminary, and find comfort in the crowd.

“We will encourage each other by sharing the love, comfort and strength we ourselves have received from God and each other,” the event post states.

Elvis’ family and friends meet each month on the 18th at the boat landing for prayer vigils. A larger event is held annually on Dec. 18th, and over the years the family has made the vigil about Heather and also those grieving and missing loved ones in the community.

Heather Elvis was last seen Dec. 18, 2013. A 20-year-old at the time, her car was found locked and abandoned at Peachtree boat landing. She remains missing.

Heather’s case

Married couple Sidney and Tammy Moorer are each charged with kidnapping in the case of her disappearance. Sidney Moorer was tried on the kidnapping charge in June 2016, but a mistrial was declared after a deadlocked jury couldn’t reach a verdict.

Prosecutors are seeking a new trial on that charge, but a date has not been set. A date also has not been set for Tammy Moorer on the kidnapping charge.

In August, Sidney Moorer was found guilty by a jury on an obstruction of justice charge connected to the case, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The Moorers were charged with murder in Feburary 2014 in connection to Elvis’ disappearance. Those charges were dropped in the spring of 2016.
