Temperature along Grand Strand to plummet in hours: What you need to know

Temperatures will drop quickly this evening as the Grand Strand is in for a cold night and even chillier morning.

As of 6 p.m. the temperature in Myrtle Beach was 56 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, but a swift drop is on its way.

The temperature is forecast to dip to 42 degrees by 10 p.m. and 36 by 1 a.m. Temps will dip below the freezing point (31) by 4 a.m. and bottom out at 29 at 7 a.m., according to the NWS forecast.

The wind chill – sometimes referred to as “real feel” – will hit as low as 19 degrees by 7 a.m. Wednesday, the weather service projects. However, no freezing rain, snow or sleet are in the NWS forecast.

Temperatures are forecast to remain cold throughout Wednesday, with a high of 45 degrees at 4 p.m.

On Thursday, temperatures are forecast to peak back up in the 50s before hitting nearly 60 Friday, according to the NWS.

Overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, with temperatures reaching below the freezing point (32 degrees), it is important to keep your pets inside and take precautions to make sure your water pipes don’t freeze, the NWS suggests.
