One person died of a gunshot wound in Conway Saturday night, according to a release from Horry County Coroner Darris Fowler.

Jahi Mishoe, 22, of Conway, was pronounced dead at the scene, Fowler said. The incident occurred near 1722 Willow Dr., which is close to the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge off S.C. Highway 544.

“He was just a loveable guy,” Thomas Johnson, Mishoe’s step-dad, said. “He was just trying to get himself together. His little baby, I know that really changed him for the better.”

Johnson said that Mishoe recently had a son with his girlfriend, had spent time studying electrical engineering at South Carolina State University and was working for Conbraco Industries, which manufactures brass valves and fittings.

The incident occurred around 11:45 Saturday night. A police report has not yet been released.

Fowler said that the Horry County Police Department is investigating the incident as a homicide.
