Morning gas line puncture closes Ocean Boulevard lanes in NMB
Lanes on Ocean Boulevard from Second to Sixth avenues South in North Myrtle Beach were closed Friday morning for over an hour after construction workers accidentally severed a gas line, according to Pat Dowling, spokesman with North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety.
The construction crew struck the line about 8:30 a.m. and the lanes reopened about 10 a.m. after the leak was stopped just before 9 a.m.
No traffic was diverted because the area was already closed for the construction, but one part of a hotel was evacuated while crews worked to stop the leak.
Dowling said one tower of the Hilton was evacuated because some of the gas was blowing into a parking garage.
